With so many different companies offering Beauty, Nail, Holistic and Hair courses it’s important for a potential student to choose the correct training provider that is going to meet their requirements and expectations, with this in mind what should you as a student look for? The most important thing is to ensure that the trainers ar…e themselves fully qualified, so ask the training centre if the teachers hold recognised Beauty/Hair qualifications e.g. NVQ/VRQ/CIBTAC, CIDESCO,ITEC/VTCT/CITY AND GUILDS/PTLLS/DTLLS qualifications and if for any reason you are concerned ask if you can see them. What length of time have they been teaching for and what work were they doing before becoming a trainer e.g. working in a salon, cruise ship, own business etc. by asking this you can establish whether they have the experience and expertise level you are looking for. Are their courses accredited and by whom, will you be able to gain professional insurance in order for you to work? You may want to visit the training premises and speak with a tutor, by doing this you can see where the training takes place and that it has a professional image. Doing short intensive courses can be scary, for instance, if you do a 1 Day Waxing Course will you be qualified at the end of it. The answer is NO, you may be certificated as the trainer will pass you on the day (all being well) but it will take several months after the course of constant practicing before you feel ready to work on members of the general public. Your training provider must give you back up and support, there is nothing worse than feeling left out on a limb not knowing who to ask or indeed worried to ask for help, just because it was 1 Day training doesn’t mean that they can turn their backs on you. So lots of things to consider, BE CAREFUL sometimes establishments aren’t always what they seem. However, you can be assured, that any training establishments that are offering NVQ/VRQ/ITEC/CITY & GUILDS etc. qualifications are a professional organisation, trainers have to hold NVQ/VRQ etc. qualifications themselves as well as holding a recognised teaching qualification, they may also be qualified Assessors/Internal Verifiers/External Verifiers, by knowing this, you will receive the best possible training available and be able to achieve your ambition to become a Beauty or Holistic Therapist, Nail Technician, or Hair Specialist.
